May 5th - I'm a bit disappointed that the weather prevented me from taking park in the openning day's excitement. I'd planned on driving over from central Illinois to shoot photos and video for use on this site. I guess I'll just have to find another opportunity to get over and get that done. The real fun starts when the sunshine locks in and school's out for SUMMER!

April 17th - Wow! Just when you thought it couldn't get better, Indiana Beach turned back the clock 27 years. They have reinstated Free General Admission for the first time since 1972. You and your entire family get into the park without charge. Stroll along the famous boardwalk and enjoy sights and sounds while you decide where to use those precious dollars you've earned. Kudos to the new owners.

April 15th - Thank God for the sun. I get so much more done with the brightness and warmth of the sunshine. Yes, I appreciate the rains. I need cloudy days to sit quietly, maybe read and rest a little. But I love the sunshine. Getting outdoors and doing work can be enjoyable but summer is so much more. Indiana Beach sort of symbolizes what summer ought to be... fun. I have renewed my pace for completing this project thanks to a phone call from a wonderful woman who is working hard to have her attraction ready for May 2nd. Have you got something you need to do? Just do it.

April 1st - What a beautiful day! Work on this project has moved through various stages. From the excitement of the beginning idea all the way to some discouragement as the task and deadlines exert their pressures. When thoughts of quitting entered my mind, I pushed them away as I remembered and focused on my original goal. Giving up is not an option. Quitting is where failure lives.
With opening day a little more than a month away, I think of all the work being done by so many all over the Monticello area as they prepare for the season to come. Surely their tasks and concerns are greater than mine. I remember that my first purpose for this site is to assist them in some small way by providing relevant information to the visitors soon to arrive. They will push on to accomplish what must be done and so will I. Forget all the negative talk of recession and bad times. All we have comes from our labors and if we have to work hard to keep it, so be it. Don't worry, be happy. See you opening day! |

| February 7th - A warming trend
showed itself today, temps up in the high thirties. That's
more than 50 degrees above my last posting. What a day, even
if it lasted just those 24 hours. These temporary moments from
the reality of winter only serve to increase my enthusiasm for
what's ahead. Spring is seen as a time of growth, renewal, of new life (both plant and animal) being born. The term is also used more generally as a metaphor for the start of better times, as in Prague Spring. |

| News Flash - Ground Hog Day
Predicts More Winter - Feb 02, '09 |
|
February
2nd - February 2nd and again insane machinations of weather
prognostication beset us. The movie Ground Hog Day loops
endlessly on cable TV, ironic, as it portrays mindless repetition.
Its winter, its cold, often dark and gray. I expect
such. I know spring is right around the corner and that
corner is just six weeks away. Spring arrives March 20th
on the Vernal Equinox when the length of day and night are
nearly equal. |
|
| January
14th - It's minus 15 degrees outside. It's winter and I expect
it to be cold. I'm not terribly fond of these temperatures.
They serve to make me appreciate the spring that's coming just
around the corner. The days began getting longer back on
December 20th. Record cold, heavy snow and gray skies are upon us.
This too will pass so let's plan for the fun
that is Monticello, Lake Shafer, Lake Freeman and Indiana Beach!
So while you're
curled up on the couch wrapped in the warmth of the fireplace,
start making plans for another great season at Lake Shafer in
Monticello, Indiana. |

Jan
1st - Hi, let me introduce myself. My name is Al Ierardi and I
love Indiana Beach. My memories are strong and dear to me ever
since my first experience as I was the guitarist with the Dick
Halleman Orchestra. We were the house band at the Indiana
Beach Ballroom playing six nights a week in the summer of '63.
What a summer for a sixteen year old guitar player. My life
long nick name, Hungry Al, came from this place but that's
another story.
This reminds me of a song (doesn't everything?)
"Oh, the
weather outside is frightful, but the fire is so delightful,
and since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let
it snow." Let's enjoy the moment too. Although I look
forward to spring, I admit that I like the four seasons... ok,
and Frankie Valli too!
Enough about me. Let me tell you what I can about the twin
lakes area and all it has to offer. The 2009 vacation season marks the 83rd year of some of the
best family friendly, hometown quality, exciting rides,
amusements, shopping, thrills and souvenirs. |
